As well as being infinitely reusable so as you dont have to replace it every time you adjust the tappets, the malleable nature of silicone solves the problem of intermittently seeping standard gaskets.

These premium silicone gaskets are produced using modern measuring equipment (CMM) and CAD programs. The Proprietary Formulation of the silicone yields the best Shore Durometer for the application. The result is a permanent gasket that provides a total oil control with modern oils. The gasket has the feature of being able to be removed and reinstalled multiple times without being replaced. A thin coat of RTV on one side of the gasket to fixture the gasket is all that is required...once.
Cork and paper gaskets are cheaper, but labour intensive and not equal to the challenge of containing modern synthetic oils. Rubber is better but lacks the malleability of silicone and also degrades and hardens over time.
1) Clean bonding/sealing surfaces on the valve cover that will mate with the gasket
2) The gasket does not require any gasket sealant but using one may make it easier to hold the gasket in position on the valve cover when refitting the valve cover to the engine. If using a gasket sealing compound it must be of a high-temperature variety.
3) Refit valve cover to engine
Original factory valve cover gaskets are semi-circular in cross-section, the round side of the gasket is mated to the valve cover. The flat side mates to the head sealing surface.
Aftermarket Alloy valve covers are rectangular and can be applied in either direction.
